Built in 1901, this historic former convent with 10 rooms is centered on 16 lavender-strewn manicured acres, complete with vineyards, heritage trees and lily-covered ponds. The premium Kingfisher Suite (#10), with its octagonal shape and vaulted ceiling, has kept most of its original architectural details, including stained glass, gothic windows and French doors opening onto a balcony overlooking the scenic landscape. Period moldings, doors and an intricately carved staircase are fashioned from native New Zealand timbers. These period details serve as a reminder of the history of this now thoroughly updated country house hotel. Amenities include a charming Great Room, an excellent restaurant for seasonal cuisine, grass tennis courts and an outdoor heated pool. The hotel does not permit children under the age of 8.
